Today I am writing this article to describe how much respect I have for this wonderful and brave women Neerja Bhanot our heroin of hijack who save so many people’s lives by putting herself to death.
She was a daughter of Harish Bhanot who was a great journalist, he also wrote an article about her daughter that she was a miracle baby girl after her two elder brother. Neerja was born on 7th of September 1962 at Chandigarh, at the age of 18 she started getting modelling assignments in her college and one after another she was doing great in her modelling career. Neerja got married at the age of 22 that was her father’s decision and without an argument she said yes for the marriage, turned out her marriage was a disaster her husband was very abusive and demanding for dowry, she ended her marriage and came back home to her parents after that she applied for the flight attendant job in pan am airline she was very good at her job. It was her last flight on 5th of September 1986 two days before her birthday her mother was already worried about her for not being at home on her birthday.

Flying from Bombay India to New York United States with stop at Karachi Pakistan with 380 passengers and 13 crew members. The flight was hijacked by four armed hijackers who was dressed as Karachi airport security the hijackers ware the part of Abu Nidal Organization they were targeting the Americans and the American assets, the flight was hijacked at the Karachi ground Boeing 747-121. Neerja was the senior flight attendant she relayed the hijack code to the cockpit crew and the pilots exited the plane from the inertial reel escape device the airline was under the control of the hijackers as soon as the hijackers know about the pilots escaping he would forced to negotiate with the officials through this whole flight Neerja looked out for everyone she was calm and responsible towards her job role at the end when each one of them is trying to save their lives she was the one who look for each passengers as well as the crew members helping everyone to evacuate from the emergency exit while the terrorist were firing constantly when they saw Neerja she was helping three of the unaccompanied children they shot her dead but still she manage to save the childrens and so many other lives she became inspiration for so many people she was also called as the “HEROINE OF HIJACK”.
She is the youngest and the first female recipient who got the Ashoka Chakra Award for her bravery and to save so many passengers lives.
Neerja died at a very young age, she was not only brave at her professional life but also in her personal life as well even after facing so many obstacles and ups and downs she was always stand strong and refuse to give up she manage to handle herself or to present herself so well with always a smile on her face which makes her more elegant and beautiful. Today on Women’s day this is my great tribute to the strong, brave and wonderful soul NEERJA BHANOT.
